Tips on Brushing Baby Teeth from the Pediatric Dentist

Practicing healthy habits can prevent or reduce cavities. It’s important to care for your child’s teeth and dental health from birth.

Always clean your infant’s gums after feeding. Gums can harbor some of the bacteria that cause cavities. Wrap a moistened washcloth around the index finger to wipe away bacteria and sugars that can cause cavities.

Later, when teeth start coming in, start brushing twice a day after meals with the age appropriate amount (small smear) of fluoride toothpaste.

Cavities are an infectious transmissible disease. Sharing utensils can cause the transmission of cavity causing bacteria from parents to child.

Schedule the first dental visit by age with a pediatric dentist for a healthy early preventative start for your dental health.
